GTA 6 pre-orders: every edition, price and bonus

Pre-orders have been open since 25 June. Here is exactly what the two editions cost, what the extra $20 buys, and two details in Rockstar's own announcement that most coverage skipped — including the fact that you don't need to pre-order to get the pre-order bonus.

The short version

  • Standard Edition — $79.99. Digital or physical, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Ultimate Edition — $99.99. Digital only. Vehicles, weapons, apparel, five exclusive shops, one special mission.
  • You don't need to pre-order for the Vintage Vice City Pack — any purchase before 20 November counts.
  • Pre-load opens 12 November, a week before launch.
  • The physical edition is a code in a box, not a disc — and it also goes on sale 12 November.
  • Digital pre-orders get one free month of GTA+.

Rockstar opened Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders at midnight local time on 25 June 2026, and they've been live globally since. With launch on 19 November, there's now a clear picture of what you can buy and what each option actually contains — plus a couple of wrinkles worth knowing before you spend anything.

01The two editions

There are two, which is fewer than GTA V shipped with and a good deal simpler than most modern releases.

EditionPriceFormat
Standard$79.99Digital or physical
Ultimate$99.99Digital only

Both are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and no PC version has been announced — Rockstar brought GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC long after their console launches, so most people expect one eventually, but that is an expectation and not an announcement.

Worth noting for anyone who buys Standard and later regrets it: the Ultimate content is also sold as a separate upgrade, so the decision isn't permanent.

02The bonus you get without pre-ordering

This is the part most coverage gets slightly wrong, and it's in Rockstar's announcement in plain language:

All Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders and purchases before November 20 will get the Vintage Vice City Pack.

Rockstar Games Newswire, 24 June 2026

"And purchases before November 20" — so buying the game on launch day itself still gets you the pack. It is presented as a pre-order bonus, but functionally it's an early-adopter bonus with a deadline one day after release.

What's in it:

  • A '55 Vapid Stanier sedan, with a personal garage at Shore Court
  • Period outfits — a pastel linen suit for Jason, a red sequin mini dress for Lucia, with matching hairstyles
  • A tropical weapon finish styled after Tommy Vercetti's palm-tree design from Vice City

Pre-ordering a digital copy adds one thing the launch-day buyer doesn't get: a free month of GTA+. That's the only mechanical advantage to pre-ordering rather than buying on the day.

03What the extra $20 actually buys

Rockstar describes the Ultimate Edition as "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story." In practice, based on the store listings:

Vehicles

  • '95 Grotti Cheetah sports car
  • Dinka Enduro motorcycle
  • Crest Kayak and a Shitzu Squalo watercraft
  • '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, with a Paradise Garage

Weapons

  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolver in Vice City styling
  • Personalised Girardi ES9 and Klose K17 pistols with engravings

Places you can only visit with it

The most interesting inclusion, because it isn't just cosmetics in a menu — five locations gated to Ultimate owners: Rideout Customs (vehicles), Sara's Unisex Salon (hair), Stock 305 (streetwear), Electric Fang Tattoo (50+ designs) and One-Eyed Willie's (off-road mods). Plus one special commission, Wyman's Classic Car Collection.

04The physical edition is a code in a box

Straight from the announcement, and it surprised a lot of people:

The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading.

Rockstar Games Newswire, 24 June 2026

Two things follow. First, if you were buying physical to own a disc, to lend it to a friend or to sell it on afterwards — that isn't what you're getting. It's a licence code in a case.

Second, and more practically: the physical edition goes on sale 12 November, a week before launch. You can have the box in your hands and the game downloaded and still not be able to play until the 19th.

05Pre-loading, and why 12 November matters

Digital pre-orders can start pre-loading from 12 November. Rockstar's stated reason is blunt: to make sure people can actually play on launch day.

That's worth taking seriously. This will be the largest simultaneous game download in history, and a full day of queued downloading on 19 November is a real risk if you skip the pre-load window. If you intend to play at launch, set a reminder for the 12th.

06Is the Ultimate Edition worth it?

Honestly: it depends on one unknown, and nobody outside Rockstar can answer it yet.

Everything in the Ultimate Edition is cosmetic or convenience content. No story, no missions beyond a single commission, nothing required to finish the game. On that basis $20 for some cars, guns and outfits is an easy skip.

The open question is whether that content later goes on sale separately, and whether the five exclusive shops stay exclusive. Rockstar has said nothing either way. If they do become buyable later, waiting costs you nothing. If they don't, $20 now is the only chance.

Given the upgrade path exists, the low-risk answer for most people is to buy Standard, play the game, and upgrade later if the exclusive shops turn out to matter. That's the version of this advice that can't go wrong.
